Wow. Three posts in one day. A new record…

I know, I know. This borders on ‘chatty’ for me. Deal with it.

I finally had some better lighting, and the red skeins had dried, so here ya go. Better pix of the yarn I made today.

The three finished skeins.

And a slightly more close-up view, so’s you can see the purty colors.

And they all lived happily ever after in a castle made of cheese. The end.

Remember when we were kids?

Remember standing in the middle of a room with your arms out spinning around in circles until you fell down? or barfed? or both? Ahhh, childhood was Good Times, wasn’t it.

What does this have to do with anything, you may ask? Not a damn thing, really. But finishing three skeins of yarn this morning kind of gave me the same feeling. But I’m well on my way to having what I need to do some serious holiday knitting, so it’s all good.

First up, we have:

The Green Skein. This is the finished product from that partial bobbin full of green stuff a few entries back. it’s mighty thin (there’s 275 yards there), but I think it will be perfect for my intended purposes.

Then… We have:

The red stuff. Which didn’t photograph particularly well, but it’s pretty anyway. Two out of three skeins of that are drying in the bathroom at the moment (about 225 yards total), the third is still on the bobbin, but I need to spin some more before that skein will be finished. That’s going to become the Leaf Cravat from a back issue of Interweave Knits, and a matching pair of mittens for my friend Barb, who was the one who bought me that fiber (and the green stuff above, truth be told).

I should be able to start knitting both of those projects tomorrow. As always, I’ll keep all y’all posted on the progress, or lack thereof…

Oh, OH, I crack myself up.

Heh. I was just reading back through the archives, looking for photos that might need to get moved to the gallery, and I found an entry from way back on April 28, in which I said:
“I should be completely finished with the body by the end of the weekend, then I just have to do the super-teensy-needle lace edging, and I’ll be able to take it to the opera on the 23rd of May.”

I’m still laughing. It’s, what, the END of August? and that damn shawl STILL isn’t finished. I’ve got at least another 2 miles of tiny-needle-lace-edging to go on it, so maybe it’ll be done by New Year’s… Maybe. Don’t hold your breath though.

Spinning is nice

Especially after a commute last night that took 3 hours longer than it should have…. Stupid, stupid WASHDOT people.
Anyhoo, here’s the lastest spinny project, which, when all is said and done will be a scarf in a fantastic knot pattern that I found recently.

Oh, the HORROR(s)

Oy Frieda. Yesterday was a Very Bad Day for the indulgence scarf.

First I realized that it was too wide - this after I was about twice as far as I was in the picture below. So I had to, *gasp*, TEAR THE WHOLE THING OUT. Yech.

Then… I came out to my car yesterday morning, in a DRIVING rainstorm, to discover that the velcro on my laptop bag had grabbed my kntting off the front seat when I got out of the car. My reborn Indulgence scarf was outside my car in a nice deep mudpuddle, and the water had wicked up the trailing yarn into the car, so the driver’s seat was all wet too. Joy.

Then… oh yeah, it continued… I got home to find that The Damn Cat had gotten ahold of the other skein of indulgence and strewn it throughout the entire house. And back again. And then some more. There was much swearing. Most of it in the direction of TDC.

After two hours of careful untangling I did manage to salvage the strewn skein, and the mud-soaked scarf part has dried and will be ok when all is said and done, but sheesh. Why’s it gotta be like that?

Mmmmm, Indulgence

Here y’all go:

That’s how far I got on the indulgence scarf this evening while watching three episodes of Queer As Folk, Season 2.

Oh yeah, it’s been a very yummy evening. Eye candy *and* tactile goodness.

Bit pimp’n crib o’ technobabble

Yee-Haw! I think I may have finally conquered the beast that is the new server at the office, so I’m home at a reasonable hour tonight, with a big-ass stack ‘o dvd’s from my pops, and some serious knittin’ to be done!

I turned the corner on the faux entrelac scarf on the ferry on the way home, and maybe tonight I’ll spin up some of that box o’ luv from The Guys and get it prepped to do some serious mid-winter-holiday-of-your-choice present action.

I’ve got friends all over the freakin’ world at this point, so I really should have at least most of my MWHOYC presents done by the beginning of December, which, I’m thinkin’, doesn’t really give me all that much time, so I’se best get crackin’.

And yeah, little Viking brother o’ mine, I am still totally doing the I Hate Microsoft dance. It’s a little less exuberant this evening, since I think I’ve been properly chastened by that damn exchange server, but I prevailed, and the mail now flows freely to at least one client box. Mind you, there is only one client box attached thus far, so it’s all good. And the mysterious profile issue seems to have resolved itself (undoubtedly through no effort on my part. I’m pretty sure that was a miracle healing…), and I don’t even feel like I have to work this weekend.

It’s gonna be a fiberific few days!

Ew. As opposed to Ewe.

Ugh. I had SUCH big plans for tonight - I was going to leave work early, come home, have some wine and spend the rest of the evening playing with the goodies that I received from those absolutely wonderful guys at ThreadBear. Yarn, fiber to spin, it was such a good plan. And as we all know, the best laid plans… Right.
I did manage to get out of work early (6:15 tonight instead of the 10 that I’ve been doing all week), and I drove home, finding some of the stuff I was going to have to go to Bellevue at lunch tomorrow for, so that was good. Got home in a reasonable amount of time, and walked in to… Ew. A wonderful game of “where’s that nasty smell?” Quick! Find it! Kill it! Gah. I HATE that.
I did manage to get a few rows done on a scarf with the Cascade Indulgence from the aforementioned Guys, and have fallen in love wiht yet another yarn.
Tomorrow I will knit more and spin some. Or maybe Saturday, since I probably won’t get out of work until LATE again tomorrow. C’mon everybody! Join me in the I Hate Microsoft Dance! It’s fun! You’ll like it! Yes indeed.

Too, too busy. Oy.

It’s been one of those weeks where I accomplished very little outside the office and outside of Barb’s wedding preps. *That* at least is coming along swimmingly.

I finished off super-chunky Patons Bella pullover number one, which is for my own bad self, and have made significant progress on Barb’s Bella pullover, hers being knit in the round this time, ‘cos a)I didn’t want to deal with all those seams, and b)I wanted to see if I could change the pattern from a flat sweater to a knit-in-the-round sweater. So far so good. We’ll see what happens when I get to the armpits though…

And on the spin-o-rific front: WOOT! I made my very first “real” skein of yarn this weekend! 117 incredible yards of a luscious merino-silk blend (I *think* it’s the McKenzie colorway - the folks at the shop swore it was the sea mist, which is on a different page, but I’m pretty freakin’ sure it’s not). It’s probably not the best ‘beginner’ fiber, being that it’s got all the slippery silk in it, and I discovered that legs that haven’t been shaved for two days can act quite frighteningly like a hand-carder, but I digress. It took me all day today, off and on, to spin that all up and ply it. I did the plying while watching Kill Bill Volume 1 again tonight, which was lots of fun. The plying is kind of uneven in places ‘cos I kept looking up to read the subtitles. Gives the yarn more character, no?

There’s also the yummy sapphire merino that I spun up into a slightly thicker single. I haven’t set the twist yet, and it’s all kinds of kinky-curly at the moment, but it’s lovely to work with and super-super soft. That’s going into some mittens with the black alpaca I got yesterday afternoon, which I will be spinning up this coming week.

More pictures coming as time allows. Read: could be a while…

It’s Here! It’s Here!

I”m not sure I can stand the excitement! My Ashford Joy spinning wheel arrived last night, courtesy of Mr. Wonderful. I stayed up WAY too late putting it together and playing with the very last of the fiber that I had on hand. It’s, um, *much* harder than it looks… I did ok with it, and got a smallish skein of vaguely passable yarn out of it, but I definitely need lots and lots of practice. It’s a good thing I have lots and lots of fiber coming in next week…

Finally!

Whew! After what seems like WAY WAY WAY too long, the mohair hoodie is finally finished! Hooray!

I had that awful moment of panic last night after knitting 80some-odd rows of hood, only to discover that I was 14 stitches short, and that the mistake was somewhere WAY down low, around mid-chest level. Ack! I decided that with the gauge on the sweater being as small as it was, that 7 stitches on either side of the front of the hood, which I will never wear up anyway, was pretty irrelevant, and let it go. So, it’s done. And it was all cloudy and cold when I left the house this morning, so I’ve been wearing it all day. It’s soft and comfy and all-around very nice. I like.
