It’s been one of those weeks where I accomplished very little outside the office and outside of Barb’s wedding preps. *That* at least is coming along swimmingly.
I finished off super-chunky Patons Bella pullover number one, which is for my own bad self, and have made significant progress on Barb’s Bella pullover, hers being knit in the round this time, ‘cos a)I didn’t want to deal with all those seams, and b)I wanted to see if I could change the pattern from a flat sweater to a knit-in-the-round sweater. So far so good. We’ll see what happens when I get to the armpits though…

And on the spin-o-rific front: WOOT! I made my very first “real” skein of yarn this weekend! 117 incredible yards of a luscious merino-silk blend (I *think* it’s the McKenzie colorway - the folks at the shop swore it was the sea mist, which is on a different page, but I’m pretty freakin’ sure it’s not). It’s probably not the best ‘beginner’ fiber, being that it’s got all the slippery silk in it, and I discovered that legs that haven’t been shaved for two days can act quite frighteningly like a hand-carder, but I digress. It took me all day today, off and on, to spin that all up and ply it. I did the plying while watching Kill Bill Volume 1 again tonight, which was lots of fun. The plying is kind of uneven in places ‘cos I kept looking up to read the subtitles. Gives the yarn more character, no?

There’s also the yummy sapphire merino that I spun up into a slightly thicker single. I haven’t set the twist yet, and it’s all kinds of kinky-curly at the moment, but it’s lovely to work with and super-super soft. That’s going into some mittens with the black alpaca I got yesterday afternoon, which I will be spinning up this coming week.
More pictures coming as time allows. Read: could be a while…
