Woot! Hello Kitty Bandaids!

Yeah, the Booger loves me. She got me a box of Hello Kitty bandaids, some sox with toes (with the obligatory moons and stars on them), and a metric fuckton of Frangos. Yeah, baby!

Remember yesterday? When I said that I just hoped the rest of the weekend would be as good as yesterday was? Weeelll…. So far so good! The Boy got home last night and told me that he has today off! Holy fuck! Not only do I get to lounge around in my jammies all day, but I get to do that with both The Booger AND The Boy! Thanks GG&O!

I slept in, had coffee made *for* me this morning, and have been sitting here in my jammies reading Fiber RAOK blogs. Thanks to Norma my face is all wet - reading her blog this morning had me laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe and had tears rolling down my face. Thanks, Norma! I love that!

Beyond that, I finished sleeve #2 to the Apricot Jacket last night, and as soon as I get off my butt I’ll go block them and take a picture, and maybe even post it. Maybe. And maybe some pix from the Colorado trip.

So there you have it. The first-thing-in-the-morning-birthday-update. Yay! Birthdays!

The best birthday surprise so far

I got an email today from a long-lost friend of mine! I had run into her down at OFFF this past summer, but somehow had managed to lose every, single business card that I came home with, including the one with her (very unlisted) phone number on it. Waaaahhh! Turns out that the evening after we left she discovered that the Booger had won the Kid’s Gift Basket, so she had picked it up for us, figuring that we’d be talking in the following week…

But, this morning, there was email from her, and we’ll be getting together on Sunday. AND! And and and and and - she is working Sundays at a LYS that I’ve been dying to go check out, and
Sunday is the drop-in day for spinners and knitters and they have a perfect cashmere spindle AND I have to go into the city on Sunday ANYWAY, sooooo not only do I get to hang out with her on Sunday and spin, but I get to do it at a well-stocked little LYS! Woot!

On top of all of this, I just found out that work is kicking everyone out at 3 today, so I get to go pick up the kidlet and work more on the Apricot jacket while waiting in the endless pre-holiday weekend ferry line. But I’m ok with that. Yes indeed.

Here’s hoping that the rest of the birthday weekend will continue to be this good!

Omigawd. It has started.

SNORT! BWAH! How’s this for too funny?

My phone rang yesterday afternoon. It was the Booger, who is a month shy of 12. So she says to me, she says:

“Hi mom. I’m on the computer… And I just found this perfect yarn on ebay and it’s really cheap.”

I’m doomed. Aren’t I….

And yeah, I caved in and got it for her. It was a 5000 yards of chenille yarn, which she is going to make a poncho out of. Her own design. The kid has Big Plans.

I mentioned that I was doomed, right?

I’ve seen sprawl, and lived to tell the tale

Yay! I’m finally back from the Holidays in Colorado! I actually got to spend xmas with The Boy this year, which kicked all available ass, and got to meet the fabulous ‘rents, and hang with all the wonderful relatives. And I got to see Highlands Ranch.

Wade warned me that it was frighteningly huge. I scoffed. Silly me. You think you’ve seen sprawl? You haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen Highlands Ranch. And for all you HR natives who have run the hell away, there’s a Tattered Cover there now. IN Highlands Ranch. No, I’m not kidding.

As for knitting progress? None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Pathetic to an extreme. We visited almost every yarn store in the greater Castle Rock area (the Red Wheel was pretty nice, and I almost wish I had gone back for some more fibery goodness, and maybe a loom. I didn’t say that. Nope. Not I, said the little red hen…).

We shopped, we ate, we shopped some more, and we got to watch TV, which is a novelty for The Boy and I, and was great fun. Who knew there were so many shows about stealing people’s cars and fixing them up for them? Weird.

I did manage to spend almost the entire day yesterday in my pj’s, on my butt, doin’ nothin’ but knitting and watching dvd’s. And it was Good. Yea, verily. One sleeve of the Apricot Cardi that’s not Apricot is done. Woo! And can I just say that my new yarn love is Debbie Bliss Cashmerino? Oh my yes. It’s yummy to work with. Maybe tonight I’ll spin up some more alpaca. That needs to happen.

And then there was the dawning realization that I will be turning 35 on friday. Where the hell did that come from? What the hell happened to the last 10 years? Where did they go? Alas. Good thing I’m digging my crow’s feet and the grey hairs and the smile lines. It’s all good.

Have I ever been a busy little beaver…

Which is why I haven’t posted in, like, forever, y’know?

But really, I’ve been busy! I swear! See? Look!

First off, we have the super-oh-my-god-these-are-girly socks:
Girly, girly socks

followed by… yeah, suckage - the hole that I managed to tear in the toe of one of them while visiting the rest of the Beavers in Portland last weekend:
much swearing went here
(I can fix that, though)

And then, the super-fabulous Elizabeth Collar that I made for myself:
My Elizabeth collar

and the one I made for O when she saw mine in progress and DESPERATELY wanted one:
O's Elizabeth collar

Followed by the socks that I’m making for someone special for the holidaze (I’m gettin’ PAID for this pair, kids, can you believe that???)
super secret recipient sox

and then, MAGNETS! A bajillion magnets! Yee-haw! See folks? my entire life doesn’t really revolve around knitting! You doubted! You mocked! HA! I showed you!

So. There you have it. And now, I truly must get back to the knitting. I have a mere 5 days to finish the sox above and the other project, which I can’t take a picture of ‘cos the person it’s for might see it. Sigh.
