“To me, it is now a question of sovereignty.” President of the Oglala Sioux Tribe on the Pine Ridge Reservation, Cecilia Fire Thunder, says “I will personally establish a Planned Parenthood clinic on my own land which is within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Reservation where the State of South Dakota has absolutely no jurisdiction.”

The Great Destashing of 2006, that is. It’s coming. Very, very soon. With pictures and everything. Stay tuned!
(oh wow. I was just about to point all y’all at the photos from last year’s stash documentation project [which got totally out of hand and abandoned in a hurry], and I just discovered that I must have gotten completely distracted when I went to change photo gallery software a couple of months ago, ‘cos it’s all gone. Gone, gone, gone. Crap. One more thing I have to deal with…)

That’s the number of 2-ply yards of Lisa Souza’s Joseph’s Coat Biffle I spun up yesterday. It’s interesting to see how differently the biffle came out than did Angela’s merino in the same colorway.
Here’s mine for comparison:
And a close-up, which shows that it’s not really purple yarn at all, but a melange of many, many colors:
This was the first time I’ve spun with something specific in mind. Generally I just spin for the sake of spinning, and figure out what, if anything, to do with the resulting yarn later. This time I wanted sock yarn (hush), and got enough to do two pairs of socks out of it. As soon as it’s dry, I’ll cast on for the first pair.
Yessirree bob.

Friday morning the Booger had her wisdom teeth pulled. They yanked all 4 wisdom teeth, and then repositioned the 12 year molars on the bottom, so that they’re no longer underneath the 6-year molars and can now come in. They’re “pretty sure” that the upper ones will now come in on their own, without having to be repositioned. God help them if they’re mistaken about that one…
There have been a lot of hard things I’ve had to do in my life, but standing there holding her ankle (the only part I could touch without being in the way) while they stuck a needle in her arm and knocked her out to do this awful thing to her was one of the worst. By far. It was all I could do to not completely fall apart, snatch her up and run like hell.
She slept a bit in the hours following the surgery, but after that she was pretty alert and other than being hungry and not being able to really eat anything, she was doing pretty well. By yesterday she seemed fine, other than not doing anywhere near as much talking as she usually does. I think she took some ibuprofen around 7 last night, and that was it. It never ceases to amaze me how resiliant that child is. Me? I cried like a little girl. Her? “More pudding, please”.
She looks like a chipmunk at the moment, storing nuts away for the winter, and I suspect that some lovely bruising is going to surface in the next few days. Poor Booger.

Once I figured out that the incredible CLACKITY CLACKITY CLACKITY CLACK the Gem was making was because the whorl wasn’t on tight enough, it’s been pure heaven. I still haven’t quite mastered the seriously funkay treadling action, so the right treadle will occasionally have thwacky moments, but mostly it’s going very smoothly.
Heidi showed me how to do long draw last weekend, and I finally got around to giving that a try, so I’ve spun up a little more than half of the Joseph’s Coat biffle at this point.
Smooth. Like buttah.
